The inaugural Tūwharetoa Iwi Māori Partnership Board was formed under the guidance of the Ariki, Tā Tumu Te Heuheu in 2022. In accordance with the obligations stipulated in the Pae Ora Act (2022), the Board is charged with:

• Capacity and capability building
• Resource allocation and budget prioritisation
• Communications, engagement and empowerment
• Monitoring and evaluating health providers within the rohe
• Iwi government to Crown government relationships
• Indigenous representation and participation
• Policy development and implementation
• Partnerships and collaboration
